HOW TO GAIN RESPECT AT WORK as a woman in a male-dominated industry // After more than a decade in the super male dominated industry of tech startups, I have seen (and be frustrated by) gaps in gain respect at work. Most books, videos and articles that focus on how to gain respect at work tend to give the same advice: if you want respect in the workplace give it first, how to gain respect by changing everything about yourself including the way you speak to confirm with patriarchal expectations, how to command respect at work by being the ultimate Alpha Bro (AKA the Corporate Chad). But how to make people respect you when you’re not a bro. The whole process of how to get respect from others is totally different when you’re a womxn - especially if you behave outside of gendered expectations (men included). So in this video, I’m going to share the hacks and lessons I learned across my tech career that helped me gain respect at work despite the fact I was typically the only woman in the room (and often decades younger than my executive peers). Don’t expect fake it till you make it here - just hard truths that will help you get more respect at work.
