No Matter How You Stack It, Magnum Wheel Pallet Flow Performs | Mallard Manufacturing

Magnum wheel pallet flow delivers. Take a look at a recent test of palletized, plastic-wrapped, boxed inventory in a wide range of pallet weights (300-1100 lb.) and heights (38” – 116”) to see how to configure a single pallet flow lane to handle a complex range of inventory SKUs.

Single stack or double stacked, whichever works better for your inventory and processing, Magnum wheel pallet flow delivers. Take a look at a recent test of palletized, plastic-wrapped, boxed inventory in a wide range of pallet weights (300-1100 lb.) and heights (38” – 116”) to see how to configure a single pallet flow lane to handle a complex range of inventory SKUs.

Test Parameters
Flow lane –
• 2.9” Magnum wheel pallet flow
• 3”/2”/3” wheel centers
• Single wheeled rails left & right/staggered, double wheels in the center
• Drop-in speed controllers
• ½” per foot lane pitch

Inventory –
• 200 – 1100 lb. per pallet (single or doubled)
• Standard CHEP-style pallets 48” x 40”
• Plastic-wrapped inventory
• 4 loads - 38” – 52” tall single stacked – tested single & doubled
• 4 loads - 92” – 110” tall single stacked

As you can see from the test video, there were no issues with these tissues once the Mallard testing lab got things rolling.

The lighter-weight pallets flowed with the same consistency as the heavier-weighted, single-height pallets. The double-stacked inventory, while a bit precarious, flowed at a good speed and stayed centered in the lane with the help of drop-in speed controllers placed in the lane.

As designed, the Magnum wheel pallet flow lane will provide a productive storage solution for the broad range of inventory the warehouse is processing.

Cautions & Advice

We always remind customers about the safety concerns for plastic-wrapped inventory in pallet flow lanes. While we understand the use of plastic wrap to ensure the inventory stays together and banded to the pallet, loose plastic wrap can cause hang-up issues in pallet flow or any dynamic storage system, which can, in turn, then become a warehouse safety concern.

The simple advice is to train equipment operators to quickly look over the pallet load before loading it into the pallet flow lane. If there is loose, dangling wrap, it should be removed first, then the pallet can be loaded.

Additionally, damaged pallets should never be placed in a pallet flow lane to prevent system hang-ups and the potential to have to send a worker into the lane to remove stuck debris.

Check out our helpful How-To blog for more advice on properly loading, unloading and clearing (plugging) paused pallets from the pallet flow lane. For system design advice, a quote or to schedule a pallet flow or carton flow test, give our gravity flow experts a call.
