Pakistan’s National Assembly descended into an unexpected moment of comedy after Speaker Ayaz Sadiq discovered ten PKR 5,000 notes lying on the floor during a session. In a light-hearted tone, the Speaker asked members to identify the owner, only to witness twelve lawmakers raise their hands instantly — a scene that sent the house into laughter. His humorous remark that “ten notes somehow have twelve owners” briefly halted proceedings and instantly went viral across Pakistan.

The incident, now dubbed “note natak,” triggered a wave of nationwide mockery. Social media users roasted lawmakers for their eagerness to claim the small amount of money despite enjoying large salaries, allowances, and extensive perks. Critics argued that all twelve MPs should face contempt charges for bringing embarrassment to Parliament. Memes and jokes flooded the internet, with some users claiming the Speaker missed calls from the Sharif brothers, while others pulled Maryam Nawaz into the banter, linking the chaos to Pakistan’s wider political culture.

Eventually, PTI lawmaker Muhammad Iqbal Afridi formally claimed the money from the Assembly office. Yet the broader national reaction emphasised a collective frustration: many said the episode reflects Pakistan’s governance crisis, symbolising a political class seen as opportunistic while the country struggles with debt, inflation, and dependency on external loans.
