Issues and challenges of Philippine Education

Other than performance outcomes and tasks, benchmarks have often been the catch word in Philippine Educational System. A number of our schools participate in exchange programs to acquire learning experiences, outcomes and techniques nationally or internationally. Coming back home, we reflect on these benchmarks in view of our own ways of learning highlighting convergences and divergences.

In coordination with Saint Paul Seminary, the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Culture, and the Saint Paul University of Manila Faculty of Education, I like to present to you a study on the future issues and problems that educational leaders and managers need to address. The aim is to underline possible avenues wherein education in the Philippines can be, in the future, if not yet, be benchmarks itself for other countries.

Methodology and structure of the presentation will be free flow exploratory interviews of key people in the education industry anchored on five conversational questions. The inteviewees include the main presenters during the SUPCOM CEAP Convention in Davao in 2017 namely:

• Atty. Faustino Madriaga, Legal Consel and Corporate Secretary of RCBN Educational System
• Dr. Doris Fernandez-Ferrer, Executive Director PEAC-FAPE
• Fr. Gregorio Banaga, CM, Former President of Adamson University and
• Don Timothy Buhain, Chief Operating Officer, Rex Bookstore, Inc.

They are joined by officials from CHED namely:
• Mr. Mark Karol Yee, Executive Director CHED Central Office
• Atty Lilly Freida Millia, Dirrctor III, International Affairs Service, CHED Central Office
• Dr. Emmylou Yanga, Regional Director, CHED IVA
