Construction BRoll - Brightline Trains - Orlando Extension Project (SUMMER/FALL 2020)

Brightline is the first privately funded passenger rail system in America in over a century and was recognized by Fast Company as one of the Most Innovative Companies in travel. Brightline is designed to reinvent travel and take cars off the road by connecting city pairs and congested corridors that are too close to fly and too long to drive. Providing fast, efficient, hospitality-driven transportation featuring the latest in customer-friendly amenities, Brightline currently operates in Florida between Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, with plans to develop new stations in Boca Raton, Aventura and Port Miami. Construction to Orlando is underway and will be complete in late 2022. Brightline West, which will connect Las Vegas and Southern California, is shovel ready and expects to launch service in 2024.

Brightline is developing 170 miles of new track into the completed state-of-the-art Intermodal Terminal Facility (ITF) located in the new South Terminal at the Orlando International Airport (MCO) as part of the company’s Phase 2 expansion, Orlando extension, into Central Florida. The $2.7B infrastructure project began in the summer of 2019 and encompasses four zones from south of Orlando International Airport, through airport grounds, east 35 miles along the Beachline Expressway/SR 528 to Cocoa and then 129 miles south to West Palm Beach. The project will use 225 million pounds of steel, will include the laying of 491,000 rail ties and transporting 2.35 million tons of granite and limestone by 20,000 railcars. Additionally, approximately two million spikes and bolts will be hammered and put in place to build the new track. Once completed, Phase 2 will remove 3 million cars from the road every year.
