Rob Lapsley’s review of Henry Somers-Hall’s Deleuze’s Difference and Repetition (2013) salutes a signal achievement. Somers-Hall not only lucidly explains how Deleuze drew upon and reworked the western philosophical canon, but also brilliantly analyses the ways in which Deleuze, without sacrifice of philosophical rigour, departed existing images of thought to become the most important philosopher of the later twentieth century.

Rob Lapsley is the co-author of Film Theory: An Introduction (second edition 2006) and is currently a PhD candidate at Manchester Metropolitan University.
