Why NFT collectors are going crazy for Artblocks (it's still early!)
This video will tell you what you need to know about Artblocks, the NFT platform that has been quietly gaining momentum with crypto investors due to the groundbreaking NFT art that they sell.
Artblocks specializes in On Demand Generative Art, a new type of art that is blowing my mind and which might be looked back upon as the dawn of an entirely new period in popular art.
To make it easier let’s break that up into two sections – on one side you have the On Demand part, and on the other you have Generative Art.
Starting with "Generative Art", this can be defined as art programmed using a computer that intentionally introduces randomness as part of its creation process. (I give simple examples in the video)
Now Generative Art isn’t new, it’s been around since the earliest forms of computers, at least stretching back to the 1960s. But what makes Artblocks so interesting is combining this with the "On Demand" side. Artblocks uses a minting process similar to other NFT collections like Bored Ape Yacht Club and Cryptopunks, but unlike those collections, the actual art piece you're buying isn't created until you mint it, since minting triggers the randomization process that occurs with Generative Art.
This is special for a couple of reasons: first, it means there are three variables involved in making art on Art Blocks, there’s the artist, the machine, and the collector. I think that gives people a special bond to the artwork that just doesn’t exist with normal art, where the person buying the piece typically has no influence on what it looked like.
And second – this On Demand minting process adds a layer of luck and fun because, from a collector’s standpoint, you’re not sure if you’re going to get a piece that will be seen as valuable and precious by the community or not.
In this video I give you a walkthrough of the platform and the different parts of the marketplace, as well as which type of artist you might want to focus on depending on your investing/collecting strategy. Then I show you my own experience trying to buy one of their drops.
Pay attention and experiment and if this scene takes off you’ll know more than most ;).
