About this video:
1-Don’t listen to other English lessons that tell you to keep your English short and concise. Speak using phrases and transitions that show an advanced level of English.
Some teachers tell you to avoid verbosity (when people use many words that can be replaced with fewer words and have the same meaning), and in general I agree, but using phrases like the following examples that are slightly longer than the direct meaning can really make your English shine.
2- Intonation
Rising vs falling intonation. We use upward intonation for questions, but sometimes people use it mistakenly in statements and it sounds unprofessional.
3- Avoid filler words and sounds
Like
Kind of
Maybe
Uhm
Ahh
anyway
4-Avoid disclaimers - share your ideas with confidence
Lowering the value of what you’re about to say, lowering expectations
5-Don’t say “I don’t know,” even if you don’t know, try to be helpful
This is “passing the buck” or avoiding helping someone. Instead, say what you can do to help them or make a suggestion of where they can find the information they’re looking for.
6- Don’t speak in a boring way, like a robot – Use stress and excitement
Most people don’t want to show emotion at work, but excitement is different.
Here are some examples in the video lesson.
7- Don’t use basic descriptors like “nice” or “good” - have some advanced vocabulary ready to describe things and people
Here are some examples in the video lesson.
