The Swedish forestry model : Environmental atlas of Europe

Having active forestry production is an important part of the solution to combat climate change. Swedish forests grow by 110 cubic meters every year with the absorption of 60 million metric tons per year in carbon dioxide. The Swedish model is built on a method of monitoring which trees should be harvested and which ones left to grow. They are marked on a map and then the preselected are gathered trees with the help of GPS coordinates. Branches that are left after harvesting are used for producing bio fuel. From the total Swedish energy production bio fuel represents approximately 26%.
