Damascius: The Last Pagan Philosopher

He was called the last of the philosophers.
When the ancient world’s greatest school closed its doors forever, one man stood at the edge of history.

Damascius, the final head of Plato’s Academy in Athens, lived at a time when Christianity rose and ancient wisdom was being silenced. In 529 CE, Emperor Justinian shut down the Academy after nearly 1,000 years of teaching. Damascius and his fellow philosophers fled, carrying with them the last flame of pagan philosophy.

This is the story of the man who defied an empire, who sought the divine beyond words, and who became the last voice of a tradition stretching back to Socrates and Plato.

Discover the dramatic fall of the Platonic Academy… and the legacy of the philosopher who refused to let its wisdom die.
