Point Nemo: Earth’s Dead Center 🌊🛰️

Did you know there is a place on Earth so remote that the closest humans are often astronauts in space?
Welcome to Point Nemo, the "Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility." Located in the heart of the South Pacific Ocean, this spot is roughly 2,688 kilometers away from the nearest coastlines (Ducie Island, Motu Nui, and Maher Island). It is so far from civilization that when the International Space Station (ISS) passes overhead, the astronauts are only 400 kilometers away—making them your "nearest neighbors!"
Fast Facts about Point Nemo:
Coordinates: 48^{\circ}52.6'S 123^{\circ}23.6'W.
Name Origin: Named after Captain Nemo from Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. "Nemo" also means "No one" in Latin.
Marine Life: Because it's within the South Pacific Gyre, the water lacks the nutrients needed to support a diverse ecosystem.
