Game Was Equal... Until This Happened!

A single chess game can teach many important lessons, and this encounter is a perfect example. In Round 2 of the FIDE World Youth Chess Championship, India's Siddhanth Poonja (2164) faced one of the strongest players in the field, Kazakhstan's Mark Smirnov, a two-time age-group World Champion in the Under-12 and Under-14 categories.

This game demonstrates the importance of accurate calculation in seemingly equal positions, the subtleties of playing same-colored bishop endgames, and how even a small advantage can gradually grow into something decisive. Most importantly, it highlights how focus and concentration are often more important than talent alone. One lapse in attention can completely change the course of a game.
