Can banks make your account balance negative for non-maintenance of minimum balance?

The answer is ‘No’

RBI Notification of November 20, 2014 states that:

“It should be ensured that the balance in the savings account does not turn into negative balance solely on account of levy of charges for non-maintenance of minimum balance”

But that doesn’t mean that customers don’t have to pay these charges
