Today I suggest you take a short trip around the city of Ashdod (Hebrew: אַשְׁדּוֹד‏‎). It is the sixth most populous city in Israel, located in the Southern District of the country on the Mediterranean coast, on the southern coastal plain. Ashdod is located south of Yavne, north of Ashkelon and west of Gan Yavne, thirty kilometers south of the Gush Dan metropolis. The Lachish River flows through its territory.
The city is an important regional industrial center. The Port of Ashdod is the largest port in the country, with 60% of all imported cargo passing through it. Ashdod is also home to one of the three Israeli Navy bases.
