How to Grow a Trucking Company, Reduce Driver Turnover, Increase Profits

It's not as hard to keep drivers as you might think. Really all it takes is a certain attitude and paradigm about what it means to be a quality employer who cares about people and the community.

If you get that right retaining drivers is easy.

Obviously, you need to pay drivers fairly. Not going to spend much time on that. That's common sense and elementary.

Next thing that should be common sense, hire quality drivers. The desire might be there, but I advise you to be very intentional about how to determine if drivers have good work ethic and a positive attitude. If you don't do that, it will just negate the rest of the advice.

That does not mean the driver must have a perfect background. It means the drivers should be a responsible adult who cares about personal development. These people are coachable.

1. Treat drivers like human beings

2. Ask them how you can improve the company (use what makes sense)

3. Hire people in the office that interact with truckers that actually care about the job, the company and people in general

4. Hire people in the office that are competent and have good work ethic.
