Chance of another rate hike 'tilts' on inflation and wage growth data

MacroBusiness Chief Economist Leith van Onselen says he thinks there is about a 25 or 50 per cent chance of another rate hike.

“It all tilts on what happens with inflation next week and then also wage growth which will come out the next month,” Mr Onselen told Sky News host Caleb Bond.

Mr Onselen said he thinks the Reserve Bank is “doing the right thing”.

“It is looking at the data and says if it comes in stronger than we expect, we’ll hike but if it doesn’t we’ll keep rates on hold.

“I’m obviously sitting on the fence because I obviously don’t know – it all depends on the data.”
