Is a big backyard great for Ridgebacks? Absolutely. Is it necessary? Not if you're willing to put in the extra effort to ensure your dog is well-exercised.

I receive a steady stream of inquiries from people worried about having a Ridgeback without a yard. The grass is always greener. Unless you live in a city, and there's no grass on either side of the fence. In that case, you just need a bit of creativity and motivation to keep your Ridgeback well-run and well-loved!
