How decentralized identity will drive economic inclusion

John O'Connor is IOHK's Director of African operations and divides his time between London & Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Here's his talk from #Cardano2020 (presented by a colleague since he was unable to present himself due to internet outages in the country at the time) on IOHK's vision for Africa, and his work in Ethiopia . This includes enabling finance that is ethical, profitable, and sustainable. There are almost 2 billion people without access to traditional banking, financial services, and too often, access to digital services. Economic growth in Africa remains rapid, but fraud is still widespread throughout the region and numerous inefficiencies continue to constrain opportunity and growth. IOHK seeks to help address these issues through:

- Developing a decentralized digital identity solution to encourage economic growth and inclusion.
- Fighting theft and fraud while increasing opportunities for business revenue
- Fostering an ecosystem of trust using blockchain, analytics, and digital identity
- Paving the way for building a DeFi ecosystem on the continent
