Synopsis:
Alison Grant begins teaching ice skating students on a friend's frozen pond after being fired from her rink job. On the first day of class her old high school sweetheart and now famous hockey player, Ivan Hall, unexpectedly shows up when he brings his niece for her skating lessons. (that's not exactly what happens in this movie but the gravitas of that line and the frequent use of the i assume regional phrase 'open skate' made me laugh). although i mean i guess it was sad that this lady was losing her job. anyway, this had a real candi cain feel in some ways —tres low budge, being low- to mid- key religious, characters being weird/controlling to each other and it being largely ignored, hiring actors off the street i assume—all of which i naturally enjoyed!
an overall charmingly off beat performance from the lead woman, a couple of other characters i had fun hating, and just an overall sketchy understanding of how anything works kept me engaged. it is hard to explain but i found the dialogue hilariously naturally awkward but sometimes endearingly so. i feel like these actors didn't have the typical ticks/techniques of more experienced actors so their delivery of a largely unnatural script was pretty understated but in a way that felt actually kind of realistic? idk idk what i'm saying. it kept me on my toes!

took me until almost the end of the film to realize that pastor chris was the director even though i had seen a picture of him not even an hour before. The goatee *really* threw me off! never again will i judge a fictional character as unrealistically dumb for not recognizing someone in like, barely a disguise). anyway he made me laugh a few times, really was giving an offputting combination of enthusiastic and smarmy. i would not want him presiding over my wedding, even though i did love the choice to have vows that were phrased like Charmed spells.
already do not really recall the coupon element was exactly and i finished this 15 minutes ago what can i say, sorry. i enjoyed the fusion of ice skating and Christianity near the end
idk why but i am surprised by how negative almost every other review is lol like yes it is not good in most ways but idk i had fun hahaha"
