CBU-105 Sensor-Fused Weapon (SFW) is a tactical area weapon used against massed stationary or moving armor and ground vehicles.The munitions dispenser contains a payload of 10 BLU-108 submunitions, each containing four skeet-shaped copper disks totaling 40 lethal, target-seeking projectiles. is fired from a safe distance by the carrying aircraft, which can then make itself scarce. The CBU-105 falls in a steep glide towards the target (it can also be lofted), using GPS or laser-guidance to steer towards the target. When it decides it is at the right point relative to the target, it releases ten BLU-108 submunitions, each of which then spits out four self-guiding, puck-shaped “skeets”. Each skeet uses an IR-seeker to find and manouvere over a tank, and then fires a hollow-charge penetrator downwards into the thinner top armour of the tank. As a secondary effect, each skeet also has a fragmentation ring which showers shrapnel around the target tank to take out any escorting infantry.
