It’s finally done! After 2 months of work, my 23-foot (7-meter) USS Nimitz is ready for the water. This 1/48 scale monster features a full air wing of 32 planes, a functional hangar elevator, and a working catapult system.
In this video:
- The Air Wing: Building Tomcats, Corsairs, and a flyable B-25.
- The Engineering: Solving the elevator jam with industrial rails and tuning the custom catapult.
- The Details: Resin-printed crew, 3D-printed molds, and laser-cut parts to save weight.
- The "Mistakes": Fixing the radar and deck layout based on feedback from real Nimitz veterans.
This build is a tribute to the ship's history and its starring role in the movie The Final Countdown. Stay tuned for Part 2, where we recreate the movie scenes!
