In this session on the Amazon Hazmat Program, we consider how you can best avoid an Amazon hazmat review when listing your products, where Amazon may initiate an Amazon hazmat check to either grant Amazon hazmat approval or deny it and how you can go about providing this information via an Amazon hazmat exemption sheet or an MSDS or SDS.

We start off by considering pre-emptive moves that will help you avoid an Amazon hazmat review altogether. If Amazon initiates an Amazon hazmat check at either of the 2 main areas when listing a product and you are placed into the Amazon hazmat program, then in the next section we look at 2 major ways that you can gain Amazon hazmat approval. One is through using what is known as an Amazon hazmat exemption sheet and the other is what is called a MSDS which stands for Material Safety Data Sheet and is also referred to as a SDS for short.

If your product is Dangerous Goods, then you are going to provide a MSDS rather than an Amazon hazmat exemption sheet. You will want to gain this from your supplier and upload it so Amazon can do a Amazon hazmat check. If you have Non-Dangerous Goods, then you will simply download, fill out and re-upload the Amazon hazmat exemption sheet. In either case, Amazon will evaluate what you send them and then either ask for more info or grant you Amazon hazmat approval.

Amazon hazmat reviews are specifically for Amazon FBA products because these go into the fulfillment centers. This is not applied for FBM products. One area where a hazmat review may be initiated is when converting a product from FBM to FBA. Another is when you gain a hazmat review when starting the shipping plan. This applies to the US and UK.
