The global energy shock has a winner, a loser, and a wild card — here's the breakdown

Vijay Vaitheeswaran, Global Energy & Climate Innovation Editor at The Economist, breaks down the global energy shock into a clean three-part framework:

▲ WINNER: Coal. Short-term, countries with coal will burn more — especially in Asia.
▼ LOSER: LNG. The golden age of gas narrative has taken a serious hit. Volatility and security concerns are undermining it just as a wave of new supply arrives.
◆ WILD CARD: Oil. If the UAE's exit from OPEC leads to a collapse in prices, cheap oil could actually be worse for clean energy than expensive oil.

From our latest episode of Energy vs. Climate with hosts David Keith, Sara Hastings-Simon, and Ed Whittingham.
