ESP8266 and LED Matrix as Kodi remote display of elapsed/remaining movie time

The goal of this project was to build remote display for any device supporting Kodi player. The display is used with the projector which is far from the player and clock, it's just convenient to have independent display. Currently I use Kodi on Orange Pi PC (Android and OpenELEC), a few Amlogic players, sometimes even Windows PC or Android tablet/phone.
Current version of the project supports:
- elapsed and remaining time (or total) of played movie
- internet realtime clock
- movie progress bargraph
- simple status icon for play, pause, stop, rewind and fast forward
And everything fits on small LED Matrix display of 48x8 pixels perfectly readable at lowest brightnes at night. And can be placed everywhere.
All data is taken from Kodi Web server via JSON interface. In the future it can be extended with more advanced music playback informations
