DIY EV Range Extender

This video demonstrates a DIY electric vehicle range extender on a 2015 Chevrolet Spark EV. 12V Lead-acid marine deep cycle batteries and a 1200W pure sine wave inverter are used to extend the driving range of the vehicle. This will allow a driver to charge the vehicle in a remote location (e.g. where no AC power or EV charger are available) to add miles of range. Approximately 2 miles of range are added per 210RC battery. In this system, 3 batteries are used which provides ~6 miles of extra range. There is room in the trunk to add up to 5 batteries which would extend the range of the SparkEV from 80 miles to 90 miles. Having the extra range reduces "range anxiety" or alternatively allows the driver to drive faster and/or use the heater/ac (drive more comfortably).

Watch Part 2 of the video to see how I sized the batteries, inverter, and charger (to recharge the 12V batteries).
