Francisco Tárrega - Mazurka in G Major

Mazurka in G was written by Spanish guitar composer Francisco Tárrega, for his friend, the optician Dr. Santiago Albitos.

The seeds of Tárrega’s musical career began with his father, a guitarist who worked as a watchman for a convent. While the elder man was away, the child Francisco would experiment on his father’s guitar. Francisco Tárrega ran away from home multiple times; the first such incident ended with him falling into irrigation and injuring his eyes. Fearing permanent blindness, Tárrega’s father had him study music, as being a musician is one of the few occupations that allow the blind to support themselves. Tárrega’s vision was permanently damaged ever since, leaving little wonder in the high regard he placed upon healers of the eyes, such as the station of Dr. Albitos.
