Instructional Design vs. Curriculum Design.

They're not the same thing.

✅ Curriculum Designers/Developers focus on the WHAT - building high-level content outlines, learning objectives, and aligning learning with organizational goals.
✅ Instructional Designers focus on the HOW - crafting engaging learning experiences like eLearning courses, videos, or job aids that actually deliver the content and drive behavioral change.

➡️ Bottom line: Curriculum Designers design the roadmap. Instructional Designers build the journey.

Though there is overlap, these roles are ideally separated to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.

So, if you're breaking into L&D, take the time to figure out which role fits you best. Otherwise, you might find yourself in a position that doesn’t really align with what you enjoy doing.
