18 BEST SCIENCE TOYS / INVENTIONS OF ALL TIME!

Hi Everyone :)
Welcome back!

I get asked often: "Where did you get all this stuff?" My goal is to share the real magic of science and physics- and to this end I will update here (and in my store) suggestions on where to get some of these toys, kinetic art pieces, and scientific curiosities for yourself.

Buy them on : https://bit.ly/2MOjFET

This video contains :

👉 Kinetic Sandscape: the phenomenon of spontaneous stratification is a striking feature of this sand motion desk toy. Typically pouring stuff together results in further mixing, yet here, when the sand mixture descends through a gap in the air bubbles, the resulting pile is ordered into sorted layers.

👉 Parabolic burn mirror

👉 Digital Sundial: a complex array of thinly layered microlouvers allows the control of transmitted sunlight depending on angle. Time is read by looking at the reflection of the filter in the bottom mirror. note the movement of the shadow cast by the sun as the Earth turns underneath during this 2.5 hour interval. Astonishing engineering.

👉 One-way light transmission: sample of film designed to transmit light but not reflect it. Developed for instrument panels such as dashboard warning lights.

👉 Lenticular Flip Astronomy Postcard: the constellation Orion as seen in visible light and as seen in the infrared via lenticular printing. This educational postcard demonstrates how NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) makes the invisible visible, showing here gas and dust glowing in the IR.

👉 "Ghost of Einstein": laser etched version of the hollow face illusion. 👻 Spooky science!

👉 Hollow Mask Dragon Illusion: a concave image lighted from the bottom appears as a regular convex image via this vintage version of the hollow face illusion.

👉 Diffractive Optical Element: images produced by constructive and deconstructive interference of coherent laser light. Side by side images from two different laser wavelengths (red 635 nm, green 520 nm) shows clearly the red image is larger than the green since diffraction angle is proportional the wavelength. So much physics here!

👉 Complex Standing Waves on a String: two motors spin a string while illuminated by strobing LEDs allows investigation of the complexity of standing waves in a periodic system. Shown here is just a couple of the stable patterns that can be generated by changing motor speed, strobe rate, and position of the two motors.

👉 Transmission Hologram

👉 Ferrofluid Interactive Lava Lamp: special ferrofluid infused wax allows manipulation of the blobs of “lava” with a weak magnet, adding an interactive element to the already mesmerizing physics of convective heat flow, Archimedes principle, and immiscible liquids.

👉 Balancing Butterflies: A box set of ten reproductions of Victorian-era illustrations on card stock of butterflies, dragonflies, and moths. Weights under the wings create a center of mass directly below the head of each bug, providing a point of stable equilibrium that will allow the insect to balance on the tip of a pencil!

👉 Planetary Gear Train: with non-circular gears! This piece of kinetic art features a 6-sided Sun Gear, six 3-sided Planetary Gears, all held within the 12-sided space of the Annular Gear. The video captures three of the many interesting modes of these epicylic gear systems.

👉 Cesium

👉 Spiram Siderum: a spiral of foil holographic stars turns on an axis held by magnets in delicate equilibrium against gravity- allowing for graceful rotation and playful interaction with light. A puff of air sends it spinning.

👉 DIY Electromagnet: iron core (nail), wire, and DC source (D cell battery)- when the circuit is complete the magnet is on. Ampere's law: moving charge (current) produces a magnetic field. In this case a dipole as seen with MagneView film.

👉 Ferrocerium Fire Striker: a highly pyrophoric alloy of iron, cerium, lanthanum, neodymium, and magnesium used for starting fires or igniting welding torches. This striker and steel key is sold as a survival tool.
