Top 7 reasons to buy an electric car in the UK in 2021

1. Environmental

Easily the number one reason to buy an electric car is the long term impact to the world pollution level and climate. Lower emissions from electric vehicles are even more impactful with urban driving. As energy production becomes greener still then the change over to electric vehicles will improve the environment further still.

2. Reduced fuel costs

The costs of charging an electric car is likely to be less than £3.50 for a 100 mile range. Currently a petrol powered vehicle delivering around 55 mpg would cost around £9.50 for 100 mile trip.

3. Lower tax

This can come in two forms. Electric vehicles will have lower VED charged than typical petrol or diesel powered vehicles.

The second impact will be seen by company car drivers who see sizeable income tax savings on benefit in kind charges for electric vehicles when compared to vehicles powered by internal combustion engines.

4. Acceleration

Some may think that electric vehicles could be slow and ponderous when compared to petrol or diesel engines. This is simply not the case. Electric vehicles deliver maximum torque immediately, delivering 0-30 MPH as quickly, or quicker than even the most powerful of supercars.

5. No more time wasted at fuel stations

As electric vehicles can be charged up overnight at home, or topped up at charging stations at home, then we may see that people have far less need for a stop off at a fuelling station. This may only happen if you are on a longer trip and you need to top up on the way.

6. Grants and discounts

The UK Government has extended grants available for people to buy electric vehicles of up to £35,000 purchase price with a 25% grant available up to a maximum of £2500. Eligible vehicles must deliver a range of at least 70 miles with zero emissions.

7. Bigger choice than ever before

With more and more new electric vehicles being produced, and more second hand models now entering the market, the choice of electric vehicles has never been greater. This choice is only getting bigger with manufacturers seeing the ban of the sale of all new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 in the UK
