CELTIC Chairman Ian Bankier says the stunning new Celtic Way was beyond his expectations as he opened the new entrance to Paradise this afternoon.

Addressing the crowd before he cut the ribbon, along with Club legend Billy McNeill, the Chairman said: "This is beyond our expectations. It's been 20 years since we have done anything meaningful to the real estate around here and when we got the opportunity with the Games, we wondered what we would do.

"We thought we would create something that would give a sense of arrival to fans and visitors to the club, and we settled on this avenue up to the main door.

"This makes a statement about who we are, what we do and what we stand for. It shows just how established we are and how much we are part of the sporting scene in Glasgow."

Manager Neil Lennon and players past and present were also present at the historic opening ceremony ahead of today's clash against Aberdeen.

Lisbon Lion Bertie Auld added: This is magnificent and you deserve it as you are the greatest fans in the world.

"We need to have something like this as when you are playing against the best you must have the best."
