The current #Japanese #navy is officially known as the #Japan #Maritime Self-Defense #Force (JMSDF). Formed in 1954, it replaced the Imperial #JapaneseNavy after World War II and is today considered one of the most #technologically #advanced and #powerful fleets in the world. Fleet and Capabilities (2025/2026 Data)The JMSDF currently operates approximately 155 #vessels. Key components include:Helicopter Carriers/Aircraft Carriers: Izumo and Hyūga class units. The Izumo class is being converted to operate F-35B stealth fighters, becoming light aircraft carriers.Destroyers: Approximately 36 units, including modern ships equipped with the Aegis system (Maya and Atago classes) for missile defense.Submarines: A fleet of 23 to 24 highly stealthy diesel-electric attack submarines (Taigei and Sōryū classes).Frigates: Rapid expansion with the Mogami class (30FFM), focused on #stealth and multi-role missions.
