Hello, Dolly! centres around Mrs. Dolly Levi, New York’s famed matchmaker. The story follows her toughest challenge yet, to find a suitable wife for Horace Vandergelder, the well-known half-a-millionaire, and send his money circulating among the people like rainwater the way her late husband, Ephraim Levi, taught her! Along the way she succeeds in matching up various others in the city including, Horace’s niece and two clerks, but everything seems to go wrong when it comes to matching Horace.
