Cordoba, Spain and the magnificent Mezquita and Cathedral - A UNESCO heritage site !

Cordoba, Spain has thousand of years of history from Romans to Visigoths to the Moors and then the Spanish after the Reconquista. The dominant landmark is the Mezquita / Cathedral. The mosque was built on the site of a church in the 9th century and saw several waves of expansion. At one time, Cordoba may have been the largest city in the world and the mosque was also at one time the largest in the world. After the Reconquista, a cathedral was built within the mosque structure, maintaining the beauty of the original building. Restoration is ongoing and this is one my favorite places to visit in the entire world.
