KDDC produces a range of dairy products. Its products are sold under the brand name "Nandini," which has become a household name in Karnataka.
Amul is a leading Indian dairy cooperative that was founded in 1946 in the town of Anand in the state of Gujarat. Amul has over 3.6 million farmer members and procures around 23 million litres of milk per day.
The cooperative has also expanded its presence internationally, exporting its products to over 60 countries.
In Karnataka, both brands are now under a political storm. Because Congress and JDS are trying to portray AMUL as a foreign brand which is trying to infiltrate Karnataka's market.
But this is not possible because AMUL can't compete with a brand that has around ₹12,00 crore incentives annually given to them by the State government.
