SOLID EDGE ST6 - DRAFTING
Solid Edge Drafting
Intro
We recognize drawings are a key deliverable for most engineers and our goals have always focused on reducing drawing production time. Solid Edge ST6 continues this trend by introducing innovative functionality to minimize your time to market.
Watch as we document several portions of a utility trailer.
As we generate a parts list for the trailer assembly, the part callout balloons will be automatically laid out using the Alignment Shape command. We'll start by positioning the balloons in a convex hull shape. Note that all of the balloons snap to a dashed representation of this shape- which can be dragged and ultimately changed. Drag individual balloons and watch adjacent ones move to maintain the current order. Balloons can be detached from the group, and associated with separate alignment shapes if desired. Reattachment is as simple as dragging and snapping back to the original shape.
Next we'll customize the parts list directly within the table using actions familiar to common spreadsheet software. Watch as we stretch column widths, merge cells, override the information in individual cells, even change text font and justification in an entire column- again done directly in the table. Customize your standard parts and materials lists efficiently.
Drawing cleanup is a snap in ST6 with tools for fast drawing view and dimension alignment. Watch as we align random views in this drawing of a cast part using keypoints within each view. Move one view and watch as the others maintain their relative position.
For dimension cleanup, we'll use the Arrange Dimension command on entire views- one click, it's done! And you can intelligently fence select a smaller group of dimensions.
Documenting electrical and piping layouts is more efficient, as ST6 takes advantage of information associated with schematic blocks. Watch as we use the Block Table command to identify all of the blocks on the active drawing sheet, then automatically generate a table including these blocks and information associated with them. Block tables behave just like any table in Solid Edge; in this case, we can further customize how the information is displayed.
Supplemental, non-graphical information is often a necessity for many production drawings. Communicating production guidance, legal, even pricing and market data is frequently done via spreadsheets, text documents, even presentation files embedded within the drawing. In ST6, embedded documents can be accessed completely within the drawing environment without activating the native software.
Watch as we edit a table in a (Word) document- notice the native user interface appears- yet you can see from the drawing sheet tabs along the bottom, we're still in the Solid Edge drawing. We'll make some changes to data presented in a spreadsheet- again, using all the spreadsheet program's tools while remaining in the Solid Edge drawing.
With ST6, we listened to our customers' needs and have delivered a faster and more efficient suite of drafting and documentation tools. Solid Edge. Design Better.
