U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed construction on more than 75 miles of new border wall system along the southern borders of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. This includes the replacement of dilapidated or outdated designs in high priority locations across the Southwest border. Construction is underway for approximately 158 additional miles of new border wall system and another approximately 276 miles are in the pre-construction phase.

These projects are being executed by USACE, as directed through the U.S. Army by the Secretary of Defense, in response to Department of Homeland Security’s request for assistance to help secure the United States southern border by blocking drug-smuggling corridors through the construction of roads and fences, and the installation of lighting under the Title 10, section 284 of the U.S. Code. DoD and USACE are executing these projects in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

San Diego 4 & 11
USACE is providing direction and oversight for Department of Defense (DOD)-funded construction of border barrier projects from California to Texas. These projects are being executed by USACE, as directed through the U.S. Army by the Secretary of Defense, in response to the Presidential national emergency declaration dated Feb. 15, 2019, requiring the use of the armed forces and authorizing the use of Title 10, U.S. Code, § 2808. DOD and USACE are executing these projects in support of Customs and Border Protection.
