TRUE at ITF21

After the Dieselgate scandal in the US, trust in what manufacturers told us about vehicle emissions hit an all-time low. This, at just the moment when concerns about the impact of dirty air on our health – particularly in cities – were rising massively. A recent court case in London attributed the death of a 12 year old girl resident in part to vehicle emissions, and in many cities around the world, local authorities are introducing policies to address the issue. Low emission zones, vehicle bans and other policies are increasingly being adopted, but usually on the basis of an understanding of vehicle emission levels which come from those inadequate tested values. The Real World Emissions Initiative (TRUE), a partnership of the FIA Foundation and International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), undertakes innovative and independent real world testing of vehicles in support of more effective policy and better air quality outcomes. In this session representatives of the initiative, funders and a city – Brussels – which is using this data will discuss it’s relevance to their work and mission.
Watch: Sheila Watson, FIA Foundation; Yoann Bernard, ICCT; Louise Duprez, Air Quality Directorate, City of Brussels; Matt Whitney, Clean Air Fund; and Tim Dallman, ICCT.
