Aborted landing at Heathrow on Valentine's night, American Airlines flight

This was one of those moments where things got real. Flying from Chicago into one of the most powerful storms over London became my most scary flying experience ever. I went from not wanting to divert to Manchester, to praying the pilot wasn't going to land at Heathrow. The sudden lunge to the left just before landing was the last straw, for me and the pilot it seems. We were told there were 60mph gusts perpendicular to the runway - check out how much we roll during the approach. It was a 767 with only 55 people on board, so we were flung around like a rag doll.

We suffered some form of rudder damage on this approach, and couldn't circle back to try again. There were also reports we were running out of fuel, which might explain why we crawled up to Manchester to possibly conserve fuel.
