Super Simple : Zoom H6 Podcast setup for phone calls without a mixer
In this video I show you a Super Simple way to use your Zoom H6 recorder to take record phone calls directly without needing a mixer or even a laptop and other software. This is a super easy way for you to make a podcast episode with a call in guest or simply take guest calls on a topic. The advantages to this are numerous; You can have a special guest on when it is convenient to them and you can also have guest from all over the world without wasting any airtime minutes or incurring extra charges on your cell phone bill.
Here's what you will need:
-Zoom H6 recorder (You can possibly use another recorder. It really depends on the capabilities of the hardware and software)
-Cell phone or smart device with internet access and an AUX input
-QUALITY AUX cord. I cannot stress enough how important it is you use a quality cable. If you don't use a decent quality cable you could get static feedback in your audio track. You can clean this up in post, but that's added unnecessary work.
-Microphone to record your audio and the cable to connect to your Zoom H6 device. In my case I used an MXL 990 microphone and the necessary XLR microphone cable. Now, this mic DOES require Phantom power, luckily, your Zoom H6 supplies it.
Last but not least, you need a set of headphones to help monitor your levels. The Zoom does have a screen that shows levels, but I always find it assuring to be able to hear where my levels are. Most importantly, a FRESH set of batteries for your ZOOM, last thing you want is your recorder dying mid-cast and a good quality and size memory card.
