Love Story by Taylor Swift: Gaylor Lyric Analysis

Love Story is one of Taylor Swift's (and history's) greatest pop hits. William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet is one of the world's best-known plays. But are either of these the straightforward, heterosexual 'love story' they appear to be on the surface? Shakespeare's work is filled with themes of masculinity and queerness, and - if you know what to look for - Taylor's is too.

In this video I analyze Taylor's 2008 record 'Love Story' from a queer and archetypal perspective to demonstrate how Taylor's choice to use a tale of star-crossed lovers implies that there is some sort of oppression in her relationship (queerness), and why I think she changed the ending to avoid a tragedy.
