Desert Sand Soap using Hanger Swirl Technique

We had a wonderful trip to Central Australia recently and I was lucky to bring back some of beautiful, very fine red desert sand. What to do with it? Make soap, of course! I used a hanger swirl technique to make this pattern in the soap. I hope you enjoy the video :)

The full recipe is listed below. But first, if you have never made soap before, please watch my Introduction to Cold Process Soap Making video here https://youtu.be/8bKpLWNqAGs.

You can also find a full demonstration of an easy beginner recipe and tutorial to get you started here https://youtu.be/Kc7duzDEa6Y

If you would like to learn more about soap recipe formulation and how to calculate your own soap recipes, please watch my video on the subject here https://youtu.be/AqKxin0q1bM

Here are the ingredients for my Desert Sand Soap:

190g water
138g sodium hydroxide/caustic soda
850g olive oil
100g coconut oil
50g castor oil
24g cedarwood essential oil
16g lime essential oil (40g total)
Activated charcoal and fine, red sand or clay for colouring

Method as per video demonstration.

Mould dimensions:
37cm long x 7cm wide x 5.5cm deep = 1424g total capacity (this recipe completely fills this mould)

I lined my mould with non-stick baking paper (parchment paper).
I have a video showing how to do this here https://youtu.be/7vU68RqnFEI

And finally, here is a link to my full video list: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqsvmrjWY7fPcKqWHnYVTMA/videos

Happy creating,
Elly
