Interview with Federal Minister the Honourable Mélanie Joly

On August 14th at the annual Sourp Hagop Kermesse, Horizon Weekly Correspondent, Talia Jabrayan, interviewed Honourable Mélanie Joly, Member of Parliament for the riding of Ahuntsic Cartierville. In her ministerial roles, Minister Joly has worked to promote Canadian culture, and to grow and increase the visibility of Canada's tourism sector. She has also worked to safeguard Canada's two official languages while promoting the use of French in Canada and around the world, including in the digital sphere. She is currently minister of economic development and minister of official languages.

In this interview, Hon. Mélanie Joly discusses some of the key compenents of the liberal party’s campaign in light of the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, focusing especially on what life will look like for Canadians in our post-pandemic new normal.
She also talks about her impressions of the armenian community in her riding and in Canadian society at large. As a result of her years’ long working relationship with the Armenian community the Hon. Mélanie Joly now feels like a member of the family. She most notably commends the strength of the community’s institutions, as well as its high level of organization and mobilization.
Finally, minister Joly highlights the mission she envisions for the Hon. Stephane Dion in his role as special envoy to Armenia, underscoring the importance of further developing diplomatic relations with Armenia and of Canada assisting Armenia with a number of issues, such as the return of POWs.

Dans ses fonctions ministérielles, la ministre Joly a travaillé à la promotion de la culture canadienne, ainsi qu'à la croissance et à la visibilité du secteur touristique du Canada. Elle a également travaillé à la sauvegarde des deux langues officielles du Canada tout en faisant la promotion de l'usage du français au Canada et dans le monde, y compris dans la sphère numérique. Elle est actuellement ministre du Développement économique et ministre des Langues officielles.

Dans cette entrevue, l'honorable Mélanie Joly discute de certains des éléments clés de la platforme du parti libéral à la lumière des prochaines élections législatives anticipées, en se concentrant particulièrement sur ce à quoi ressemblera la vie des Canadiens dans notre nouvelle normalité post-pandémique.

Enfin, la ministre Joly met en lumière la mission qu'elle envisage pour l'honorable Stéphane Dion dans son rôle d'envoyé spécial en Arménie, soulignant l'importance de développer davantage les relations diplomatiques avec l'Arménie et de permettre au Canada d'aider l'Arménie dans un certain nombre de dossiers, comme le retour des prisonniers de guerre.
