Shutdown postpones Trump administration’s farm aid plans

We are getting new reporting from POLITICO that the Trump administration is delaying the rollout of economic aid for farmers this week. The indication is that this is largely coming from issues related to the government shutdown. Joining LiveNOW’s Austin Westfall with more on this story is Grace Yarrow, a food and agriculture policy reporter for POLITICO and the author of POLITICO Pro's daily morning agriculture newsletter.

“I’m going to do some farm stuff this week,” Trump said at the White House on Monday.

We also heard in a statement from USDA spokesperson Alec Varsamis that, “President Trump has made it clear he will not leave farmers behind, so USDA will continue to assess the farm economy and explore the need for further assistance, however, there is nothing new to share at this time.”
