TALES OF HOFFMANN: 1916 with Music by Offenbach - in HD

This German film, Hoffmanns Erzählungen, is based on the stories by E.T.A Hoffmann, who is also a character in each of the stories. Each tale has "fantastical" qualities and relate the author's various unhappy experiences in his love affairs. In 1881, the famous opera by Jacques Offenbach, LES CONTES d'HOFFMANN, debuted in Paris. Perhaps in keeping with the mood of the tales, the composer died shortly after he completed the opera.

For musical accompaniment, I used vintage 78 rpm records, some acousticals, of music by Offenbach. I used what orchestral music I could find from the opera, supplemented by music from other Offenbach works including ORFEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD, and THE GRAND DUCHESS.
