Strabismus is caused by a lack of coordination between the eyes and they become misaligned as a result. In children, this misalignment can cause the brain to favor one eye over the other. If this continues, the eye that the brain ignores will begin to lose its ability to see. This loss of vision is called amblyopia, and it is frequently associated with strabismus.
