#35 Low Level Vision | Part 3 | Modern Computer Vision

Welcome to 'Modern Computer Vision' course !

This lecture introduces the Laplacian operator, a powerful tool in image processing that helps us find edges. We'll use a Taylor series expansion to approximate the Laplacian and represent it as a discrete filter that a computer can understand. Then, we'll explore the zero crossing detector, which utilizes the Laplacian to identify edges within an image. We'll also discuss a more robust version called the Laplacian of the Gaussian (LoG), which is less sensitive to noise, and its nickname, the Mexican hat filter, due to its unique shape. Finally, we'll learn why the LoG is considered a bandpass filter and its implications in image processing.
NPTEL Courses permit certifications that can be used for Course Credits in Indian Universities as per the UGC and AICTE notifications.
