Ukraine's 109th Brigade use Humvees and satchel charges to raid Russian position in Krasnohorivka
Daring Ukrainian troops raided a Russian position in the town of Krasnohorivka using American-made Humvees and satchel charges. Soldiers of the 109th Territorial Defence Brigade carried out the attack against Russia’s 5th Motor Rifle Brigade, which is trying to gain a foothold in the town.
The Ukrainians used Humvees to approach two buildings on the south-eastern edge of town where the Russians had established a position. The Humvee gunners opened fire on the building with their .50 calibre machine guns to keep the Russians suppressed as the assault teams moved in.
Two men from each vehicle climbed out and ran towards the buildings, before throwing satchel charges through the ground floor windows. The men then ran back to safety and the Humvees took off, narrowly avoiding the explosions as the satchel charges detonated. Kranohorivka is located to the west of Donetsk city, where Russia has been advancing since the beginning of the year. Mariinka, just to the south of Krasnohorivka, was captured by the Russians in early January, whilst Avdiivka, to the north, was captured a few weeks later. The Russians are continuing their push west, in the hopes of capturing the parts of Donetsk Oblast they don’t control, and which Putin has promised to ‘liberate’.
