COMAND NTG1 W220 Refusing to accept DVD/CD

It seems like there's a mechanism that think a DVD/CD is inserted, and refuses to accept a new media. When waiting a day or two, it works as it should, almost as if a mechanical part has gone back to correct position.

Anyone seen this before?

Update:

I fully disassembled the COMAND system. The DVD player is at the bottom, so all components had to be disassembled. A fairly simple job for a DIY-er, as long as one's careful enough to check all connectors etc.
The unit was very clean but I still cleaned and lubed all mechanisms, and worked them back and forth manually.
It seems to be working as it should now.
