Wababa
The sound "Wababa" was given to me as a writing prompt by my young cousin and I wrote this.
The wonderful title art was by the brilliant Nina Tea!
And the cats name is Athena.
Wababa
“Wababa…”
I sat up suddenly. Where had that sound come from?
“Wababa…”
There it was again. I got up out of the chair and wandered outside, listening as hard as I could.
“Wababa.”
There it was! Louder. Under the porch, I thought. Just as I crouched down to look I heard it again, right in front of me.
“Wababa!”
I stared at the wide yellow eyes that peered back at me from the darkness. We froze the two of us for a long moment.
I was scared but then it whispered, “Wababa?” And it sounded scared too.
My fear melted and I held out a hand. “It’s okay,” I told it in as gentle a voice as I could. “I won't hurt you, you can come out.”
I backed up a little bit.
“Wababa?” It asked again a little calmer, but it came out into the light.
It was about the size of a dog but it had big cat's eyes, bunny’s ears, sheep’s feet, and a fox's tail.
“I’ll call you Wab.” I told it with a smile.
“Wababa…” The Wab rubbed its ears against my shoulder happily and we have been best friends ever since.
