You're the One That I Want Bass Cover

Don’t give me a hard time, it’s a cool bass line!

"You're the One That I Want" is a song written by John Farrar for the 1978 film version of the musical Grease.

Who played the bass on it? There are 6 possible bass players credited - Mike Porcaro, William David Hungate, Max Bennett, David Allen Ryan, Wm. J. Bodine, Dean Cortez and Harold Cowart. My guess would be Dave Hungate because he was a super-clean pick player.

I just realized this is my first video with this bass that I got around my birthday back in September. The bass is a Spector Euro LX-35 with only 8 being made in this format and finish which is Ultra-amber over Poplar-burl with an ebony fretboard, Aguilar DCB-G3 p/u's (OB-2 preamp) and a 35" scale. I planned on putting a Spector HAZ pre-amp in it when I got it. Someone suggested doing a few videos with the bass “as is“ which seemed like a good idea. This way I’d have something to compare it to. This is the stock bass as I got it. I recently had the HAZ pre-amp installed, but I’m still not really happy with it. It seems that the pickups have too strong a voice to really be colored by the pre-amp. My next plan is to replace these pick-ups with EMG’s. An EMG-P4 (Precision Soapbar) and an EMGJ4-Reverse (Jazz Soapbar) in the neck and bridge positions, respectively. The ”Reverse J” means that the single coil is in the front of the pick-up, more toward the neck and away from the bridge. I’m hoping that this will bring the bass’ sound more toward that of a classic, P/J Spector.
